Well, I was correct. I came second from last in my first members race. Everybody else was significantly faster than me, so I spent a lot of time waving people past and generally trying not the be the annoying backmarker blocking everybody. They were late starting the race, and I’d already started to cook in my helmet, and instead of 3 x 15 minute sessions they decided on a 15 minute qualifier followed by a 30 minute race with no break in-between. I was absolutely knackered, and got cramp in both feet about 20 minutes in to the race. Thanks to having drivers who knew what they were doing (excluding me!) there were no yellow, red or black flags at all, and I had the opportunity to follow the pro’s as they passed me to see how they were taking the corners etc., which must have worked because I got a new PB which I’m very happy with. Most of my 30+ laps were also in the 39 second bracket which was good because up until a week ago I was really struggling to beat 40 seconds. I’ll do a few more mid-week runs before trying a members race again I think so I can have a go at coming 3rd from last.
